Our Philosophy

At Positive Momentum ABA, we believe in taking a personalized and family-centered approach to ABA therapy. We recognize that every child is unique and that their therapy plan should reflect their individual needs, strengths, and preferences. We also believe that families are an integral part of the therapy process, and we strive to provide them with the support and resources they need to be active participants in their child's care. We believe that by following these principles, we can provide children with the best possible opportunity to succeed in therapy and in life.

Here are the core principles that guide our approach to ABA therapy:

Individualization

We create individualized treatment plans that are tailored to each child's specific needs and goals. We use a variety of assessment tools and data collection methods to track progress and make adjustments to the plan as needed.

Child Participation

We believe that children are active learners and should have a say in their therapy. We use a variety of strategies to ensure that children are engaged and motivated in their sessions. Our team also limits exposure to interventions that may be aversive for children and can lead to frustration and tantrums. Instead, we emphasize the use of positive reinforcement to promote motivation and learning.

We are also neurodivergent accepting, which means that we respect and value the neurodiversity of our clients. We recognize that every brain is different, and we believe that all people should be treated with dignity and respect.

Family Connection

We involve families in all aspects of the therapy process. We provide families with education and training so that they can support their child's progress at home. We also encourage families to provide feedback and suggestions to help us improve our services.

What is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a type of intervention that focuses on understanding and changing behaviors. It is based on the principles of learning and behavior, and it has been shown to be effective in helping people with a variety of challenges, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and intellectual disabilities.

ABA therapy is typically delivered by a team of professionals, including behavior analysts, registered behavior technicians (RBTs), and sometimes other specialists. The team will work with you and your child to develop a personalized treatment plan that addresses your child's specific needs.

ABA therapy can be used to teach a variety of skills, including:

  • Communication and language skills
  • Social skills
  • Self-care skills
  • Play and leisure skills
  • Motor skills
  • Academic skills

ABA therapy can also be used to help reduce challenging behaviors, such as:

  • Tantrums
  • Self-injurious behaviors
  • Aggression
  • Property destruction

ABA therapy is typically delivered in a variety of settings, including:

  • Homes
  • Schools
  • Clinics
  • Community centers

The intensity and duration of ABA therapy will vary depending on the individual's needs. However, ABA therapy is typically a long-term intervention, and it may take several years to see significant results.

Services Offered

Early Intervention

Communication and Social Skills Training

Communication and Social Skills Training

Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) is an approach where young children are taught important and necessary skills needed to “catch them up to their peers.” This model typically has a high number of recommended hours (i.e., intensive) with the goal of providing high levels of support in their important early years before heading to Kindergarten. The aim of Early Intervention is to reduce the need for more extensive and intensive interventions later in life.

Communication and Social Skills Training

Communication training focuses on teaching expressive and receptive language skills to be used with their friends and family. The goal of communication training in ABA Therapy is to teach an individual to express their wants, needs, and thoughts and to improve their social skills. This may involve teaching your child to use vocal language, sign language, picture exchange, or alternative communication methods (via electronic devices) in order to communicate and interact with others.

Adaptive living Skill Development

ABA Therapy doesn't only focus on language, we also help improve functional living skills to help promote independence, improve quality of life, and promote greater self-sufficiency. Adaptive living skills may include a range of activities such as personal care (e.g., grooming, bathing, dressing), household chores (e.g., cooking, cleaning, laundry), and money management.

Severe Behavior Treatment

Executive Functioning Development

Aggression, Self-Injury, property destruction, etc. can be very difficult to manage without support and training. Severe behavior treatment addresses serious problem behaviors that are dangerous to the individual or others and by increasing replacement behaviors. This is achieved through ABA treatment with your child and parent guidance meetings to increase your child and family’s safety and quality of life.

Behavioral Feeding Issues

ABA Therapy can help improve your child’s higher-level cognitive skills involved in problem solving, decision making, and self-regulation. These skills, referred to as "executive functions," are essential for success. ABA-based treatment may include teaching skills such as task initiation, organization, planning, prioritization, time management, and working memory, as well as impulsivity, inattention, or distractibility.

Empowering individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other behavior challenges to reach their full potential through evidence-based applied behavior analysis (ABA) services, fostering meaningful connections, and promoting inclusive communities.
